Local Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking representative stated the incident left him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
